As standard bearers of the East Coast hardcore scene in the early
1980s, Bad Brains were partly responsible for helping the Beastie Boys
first get into the recording studio.
Now, one of the Boys is returning the favor, as a long-awaited Bad Brains
record produced by the Beasties' Adam Yauch will see the light of day
this summer
"Build a Nation," recorded with the classic Bad Brains
lineup of enigmatic singer H.R., guitarist Dr. Know, bassist Darryl
Jenifer and drummer Earl Hudson, is slated for a late May/early June
release on Megaforce Records, Billboard can exclusively reveal.

"American Idol" viewers squashed the dreams of four more aspiring
singers Thursday night, but Antonella Barba, the focus of recent
attention over some racy Internet photos, was not one of them.
Alaina Alexander, Leslie Hunt, Nicholas Pedro and A.J.
Tabaldo were voted off in the phone ballotting, which drew about 32
million calls and text messages.
Sixteen hopefuls remain of the 24 who
began the elimination rounds.

Arctic Monkeys cemented their status as Britain's hottest young band at
the NME Awards tonight (March 1), where they won two categories.
In a
ceremony at London's Hammersmith Palais, the rockers won best album for
their debut "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (Domino) and
best music DVD for "Scummy Man."
Just last month, the Sheffield band emerged as the big
winners at the Brit Awards, where they scooped trophies for British
group and British album.

Pearl Jam will return to its Lollapalooza roots by serving as one of
the headliners for the 2007 edition of the event, which will be held
Aug. 3-5 in the city's Grant Park.
The news was first reported by the
Chicago Sun-Times and confirmed by sources to Billboard.com.
Pearl Jam's rise to fame was cemented by its
performances on the 1992 Lollapalooza tour, which was concurrent with
the ascent of its debut album, "Ten."

Pop singer Gwen Stefani had to be persuaded to record a duet with hip-hop superstar Akon because she didn't know who he was.
Stefani was asked to collaborate with the Smack That singer on her new
single The Sweet Escape, but was initially reluctant to do so as she
had never heard his music.

With a guest appearance from Alicia Keys, sing-alongs galore and an
intimate two-song acoustic performance on a small stage in the middle
of the crowd, John Mayer's sold-out performance Wednesday night
delivered everything a headlining spot at Madison Square Garden should.
After a strong opening set from Mat Kearney, Mayer's show began
with the venue darkened before the sounds of Mayer's guitar drowned out
the screams from younger members of the audience.
A blue spotlight
revealed him as he began "Belief" solo before being joined by the rest
of his band.

Avril Lavigne declared in a Web post late last year that her next LP, The Best Damn Thing, would be "fast, fun, young, bratty, aggressive, confident, cocky in a playful way ... all the good stuff."
In case you didn't believe the "fun" part, the singer recently told MTV she had an absolute blast recording the effort.
She didn't labor over songs, didn't write any serious ones — well, OK,
just a few — and made sure to indulge herself throughout the process.

The members of Destiny's Child have reformed briefly for Beyonce Knowles' new Get Me Body video.
The trio split at the beginning of 2006, but Knowles is keen to
make sure the girls are never apart for too long and she's proving just
that by asking Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland to be part of her
new promo.
She says, "It was exciting because we learned choreography... It was like old times.
"I'm so serious when I'm working and they were with me and we laughed and we're so goofy."
And Knowles hints at many more reunions, admitting, "I miss them so much."

Beyonce Knowles was not exposed to hepatitis A at a recent celebrity bash celebrating her appearance on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Officials from the Los Angeles
County Department of Public Health confirmed on Tuesday that guests at
the Feb. 14 soiree were potentially at risk.
An employee of celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, who was working at the party, has been diagnosed with the disease.

Pop singer, Michael Jackson, a near-recluse since being acquitted of child abuse allegations in
2005, is considering offers to perform in the US gambling capital of
Las Vegas, his spokesman said Tuesday.
Jackson has been presented with numerous unsolicited proposals,
"several of which include performing in Las Vegas," spokeswoman Raymone
Bain said.
Jackson "is currently reviewing and evaluating each proposal," but he
"does not believe that he is under any time constraint for making his
decisions."
The former 'King of Pop' is currently living in the western city of Las
Vegas "because he likes the city," and not "to shop a Vegas show," Bain
said.

Britney Spears stepped
out for an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting last night wearing a band on
her wedding ring finger, fuelling rumors she is reconciling with
estranged husband Kevin Federline.
The "Toxic" singer left the Promises Treatment Center in Malibu, California, for her first supervised outing.
The 25-year-old filed for divorce
from Federline in November and kept her wedding ring finger bare while
dating, but has been wearing a band on her left hand over the last
week.

Justin Timberlake and Pink are among the stars who have secretly been reaching out to show their support to Britney Spears as the pop singer battles substance abuse in rehab.
Friends claim Timberlake left a personal message for his ex-girlfriend after calling the Promises treatment center in Malibu, California, last week.
A pal tells Life & Style magazine, "He wished her the best and told her to get healthy and come back as the Britney he knew."

Britney Spears enjoyed one last wild weekend of drinking before checking into Promises rehab centre, it has been revealed.
The
'Toxic' singer arrived at Los Angeles' fashionable Mondrian hotel early
on Saturday February 17, wearing a blonde wig to cover her newly shaven
head, but was refused a room because she had no cash or credit cards.
Britney,
25, was seen at 11am stripped down to her bra and knickers, sunbathing
by the pool. She then shaved her legs in the pool bathroom.

The Grammy-winning "Kiss from a Rose" crooner was on the losing end of
an appeal filed in London's High Court in a money dispute with his
former manager.
Not only was Seal ordered to fork over nearly $982,000 in back
commission, but the court also ordered the singer to pay for the legal
costs of his former right-hand man, a considerable sum when taking into
account that litigation has been ongoing since last June.
Heidi Klum's other half was also ordered to pay nearly $345,000 of the settlement up front.

It seems it's never too late to hop on the Norah Jones Express.For the third time in four weeks, Jones' Not Too Late moved enough
copies to rank atop the Billboard 200 album chart.
For the week ended
Sunday, the disc held that position with another 100,000 sold,
according to Nielsen SoundScan numbers released Wednesday.
That brings Late's four-week tally to 953,000 discs. The album is also
the first to spend three weeks at number one since last summer's Now
That's What I Call Music! Vol. 22.
