Katherine "Katie" Lohmann was born on January 29, 1980, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Very shy as a young girl, Katie discovered by age 10 that she loved to perform on stage for crowds, and began to come out of her shell.

When she was 12, Katie's parents, Sharron and Dan, divorced, and Katie moved to Seattle with her mother. But the northwestern climate didn't agree with her and, at 16, she moved back to Arizona to live with her father and her two older siblings.

Fresh out of high school in 1998, Katie began working as a model, appearing in various calendars, catalogs and magazines. She was discovered by Play..boy and made her first appearance in the seminal men's magazine in December of 1999.

In April of 2001, Katie was the magazine's Play..mate of the Month, and she would go on to appear in a number of the company's publications and videos. Company founder Hugh Hefner was impressed: "I always knew she would make me proud," he later remarked.
