Lou Doillon was born September 4, 1982, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, France. The daughter of acclaimed director Jacques Doillon and legendary actress Jane Birkin, she ventured into the family business at the age of 5 when she costarred with her mother in Kung-Fu Master.

Lou Doillon's career as an actress soon gave way to an adolescence full of rebellion, and by the time she was 15 Lou Doillon’s body was covered in piercings and tattoos. Jacques was understandably alarmed by his daughter’s unsavory transformation, and he attempted to refocus her energy by casting her in his film Trop (peu) d’amour. Jacques’ plan worked to perfection and the film was a stunning success. “He was right,” Lou admits. “It calmed me down. It made me a new person.”

The film also presented Lou Doillon with plenty of new opportunities, and she was promptly cast in Mauvaises frequentations, a charming romantic comedy which won director Jean-Pierre Améris the World Prism Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
