With a guest appearance from Alicia Keys, sing-alongs galore and an
intimate two-song acoustic performance on a small stage in the middle
of the crowd, John Mayer's sold-out performance Wednesday night
delivered everything a headlining spot at Madison Square Garden should.
After a strong opening set from Mat Kearney, Mayer's show began
with the venue darkened before the sounds of Mayer's guitar drowned out
the screams from younger members of the audience.
A blue spotlight
revealed him as he began "Belief" solo before being joined by the rest
of his band.

Avril Lavigne declared in a Web post late last year that her next LP, The Best Damn Thing, would be "fast, fun, young, bratty, aggressive, confident, cocky in a playful way ... all the good stuff."
In case you didn't believe the "fun" part, the singer recently told MTV she had an absolute blast recording the effort.
She didn't labor over songs, didn't write any serious ones — well, OK,
just a few — and made sure to indulge herself throughout the process.

The members of Destiny's Child have reformed briefly for Beyonce Knowles' new Get Me Body video.
The trio split at the beginning of 2006, but Knowles is keen to
make sure the girls are never apart for too long and she's proving just
that by asking Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland to be part of her
new promo.
She says, "It was exciting because we learned choreography... It was like old times.
"I'm so serious when I'm working and they were with me and we laughed and we're so goofy."
And Knowles hints at many more reunions, admitting, "I miss them so much."

Pop singer, Michael Jackson, a near-recluse since being acquitted of child abuse allegations in
2005, is considering offers to perform in the US gambling capital of
Las Vegas, his spokesman said Tuesday.
Jackson has been presented with numerous unsolicited proposals,
"several of which include performing in Las Vegas," spokeswoman Raymone
Bain said.
Jackson "is currently reviewing and evaluating each proposal," but he
"does not believe that he is under any time constraint for making his
decisions."
The former 'King of Pop' is currently living in the western city of Las
Vegas "because he likes the city," and not "to shop a Vegas show," Bain
said.
