Any plans to send Willie Nelson to jail for drug possession have gone to pot.
The herb-happy country crooner has been spared serving time in the
slammer after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of marijuana
possession Tuesday in Louisiana.
Nelson and members of his posse were issued citations in September
after state troopers boarded his tour bus and sniffed out his stash of
marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms.
In exchange for their guilty pleas, Nelson and tour manager David
Anderson each paid a $1,024 fine and were placed on probation for six
months by state Judge Paul deMahy.

The prosecution and defense agreed on one point: In court, Phil Spector is "Phillip" Spector.
Beyond that, the two sides were typically of a split mind as opening
arguments began Wednesday in the Los Angeles murder trial of the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame music producer.
Per prosecutor Alan Jackson,
Spector is a man with a "very rich history of violence against women."
Per defense attorney Bruce Cutler, Spector "was, and is, a true
romantic of a bygone era."
Of no dispute was the matter at hand: Spector is charged with shooting
to death B-movie actress Lana Clarkson in his castle-styled home in
Alhambra, California, on Feb. 3, 2003. If convicted of second-degree
murder, he could face 15 years to life in prison.

Snoop Dogg has been refused entry into Australia because of his
extensive criminal record, the immigration minister said Thursday, the
second time this year the rapper has been barred from entering another
country.
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr., was due to
fly into Sydney this week to co-host the MTV Australia Video Music
Awards.
Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said Snoop Dogg's visa was canceled
because he had failed to pass the country's strict character test,
which takes criminal convictions into account.

Charity was the "American Idol" theme Wednesday night, and the
generosity flowed to the contestants, too — no one was voted off the
show. After a parade of pop stars, including Kelly Clarkson and Celine Dion,
Ryan Seacrest announced the non-result: "All your favorites are still
in the competition. How could we let anyone go on a charity night?"
Seacrest said the more than 70 million calls and text messages counted
this week will be added to next week's tallies. That means two
contestants will be shown the door next Wednesday.
